Today monumental heritage conservation requires a new professional and institutional strategy. It is impossible to preserveour historical heritage by applying exclusively emergency conservative criteria. Restoration treatments, increasingly difficult and demanding in human and financial aspects as they are, often are not enough. An evolutive leap in restoration theoretical grounds is deemed as essential when the minimizing of deterioration through the monitoring and control of changes affecting objet occurs. “The demand of prevention goes beyond cultural, political or financial reasons”, as UNESCO states through the words of Federico Mayor Zaragoza, and so concluding: “Prevention is an ethical demand”.
ártyco performs preventive conservationas a systematic work method. We are convinced of the urgent need of prevention. Consequently, our efforts to promote it as theoretical corpus and also the sharing of our experiences on the topic have turned our professional activity into a referencial one, as pioneers in this particular way of understanding conservation in our days and environment. This comes, in particular, after the much acclaimed results from our 2005 preventive conservation campaigns at Seville and Huesca Cathedrals.
